What will I learn?

images77.jpgI started to get bus fever “ill call it”,  some sort of romantic feeling that people of old had when they heard about going out west to settle the land.  buying an RV or motorhome and roaming the country must touch on some anthropological gene of man.  I would scour ebay bus listings, and other internet RV sales and recreational vehicle sites soaking up ideas and shaping my dream.

I beagan to be averse to winnebago and junky prefab rv’s and used motorhomes, and concentrate on the sturdy coaches and buses.  definately diesel buses, like a diesel pusher or e ven a school bus.  I looked at mci, eagle and prevost, it is truely amazing the cost of some of these. Buying a bus is like buying a land yacht, a home on wheels in some cases. The idea of taking as much of your crap along with you during your adventure is very apealing.

During my seach on the web there didnt seem to be a great way to search for a used bus, there is all kinds of rv sites, used rv sales and motorhome sales info but a lot of it was full of crappy ads and misdirection.  when I find good sites for bus enthusiasts I will link them here even if they are competitors, used bus enthusiasts have to stick together.

Back to what I was talking about, so i decided to save my money for a used bus shell, ive always been handy and the idea of creating my own bus, my persalized bus is the way to go.  One funny thing is just 2 miutes ago while I am writing this I got a call back from a couple in Nebraska that own a used bus, an mci that was made in 1967 I believe. It is a partial bus conversion, I think it is an mci 5.  I wanted a newer larger bus, I was leaning toward a mci crusader, an eagle, or some kind of gmc.

Well the upside of my used bus search is that the bus is here in Montana, so I will save money and time retrieving my dream bus. This nice used bus is also at what I feel is a fair price, they had it listed at about $9k and were hoping to get about $5 or $6k I believe. They agreed to sell it to us for $3k, now no bus is worth it if it is a pile of junk sittin in your yard…they guarantee me it is running fine.

This used MCI bus has plumbing in, freshwater, blackwater, and greywater tanks.  I saw pictures of a clawfoot bathtub that they had installed in this bus.  This seems to be a decent pre owned bus, kinda of a partial bus conversion and a bus shell. I hope the buses diesel engine and transmission are in good condition. I think it is a nice used motorhome, i hope we have a fun time in our bus adventure and find some really neat RV parks, especially for kids.

here is a copy of the bus ad that I found in an rv sales site….

Purchased in NC from bus dealer. We gutted it and started the interior and did all the gray water, black water, fresh water, etc. Has electric, toilet, bath/shower set up kitchen is in and benches/table for dining. We have aromatic cedar wrapped in the bathroom with an old cast iron tub wrapped also. Dining room table is 100+ year old door finished. This bus has great potential to be a really cool rig when finished. We have just run out of steam and time to finish it. Has a custom built bumper in rear with hitch socket and has towed our 3 horse trailer. We have lived in the unit for months at a time and just love it, but it needs heat/cooling put in and the final touches done. You will have a rare jewel when it is done! Pictures upon request. And price is negotiable!

We plan to pick it up on saturday, our used bus is about 200 miles away from here! Ill post more on this later
